Streaky is one of Europe’s premier mastering engineers, with over 25 years of experience in the industry. His work at Battery Studios with artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, Groove Armada, Britney Spears, and The Stone Roses established him as a leading figure in the field. By honing his skills under the tutelage of Kevin Metcalfe at The Soundmasters, Streaky was able to take his expertise to the next level, working with a diverse range of artists such as Depeche Mode, Snow Patrol, Kasabian, Usher, and The White Stripes.

At Metropolis Mastering, Streaky continued to expand his client base, working with top-tier artists such as Taio Cruz, Skepta, JME, Giggs, P Diddy, Paul Weller, and Ed Sheeran. MODULE 1:

MASTERING MINDSET

Mastering and mixing require two completely different approaches. In this lesson, Streaky will guide you on how to approach each and what is the best way to listen and think during a mastering session to achieve high-quality results.

With over 25 years of experience in mastering dance music, Streaky has honed his knowledge of the specific requirements for streaming services, clubs, and small speakers. Streaky is passionate about dance music and has a keen ear for emerging trends.

MODULE 2:

LOUDNESS RMS/LUFS & MARKET RESEARCH

Knowing how to measure loudness correctly is essential. In this lesson, Streaky provides techniques not only for achieving high levels on the meters, but also for achieving perceived loudness.

Streaky also shows you the levels your competition is achieving, and how you can achieve the same or better results without losing dynamics or crushing the mix.

MODULE 3:

THE STREAKY METHOD: SYSTEM & TEMPLATES

The Streaky Mastering Method has been crafted through Streaky working daily as an in-demand mastering engineer for many years. The goal is to achieve consistent sound quality and speed in delivering tracks to meet last-minute record label deadlines.

This is accomplished through a template that provides a system where you don't have to spend all your time setting up but rather you can focus on the sound itself. This lesson teaches you the Streaky Mastering Method and provides you with the same template to use in your DAW!

MODULE 4:

GAIN STAGING &
LIMITING

Limiters are an essential component of mastering dance music. They help control the peaks of a mix and allow you to push the overall level of your track while still preserving dynamics.

In this lesson, Streaky shares his favourite limiters and provides detailed instructions on how to use them effectively.
Additionally, he covers gain staging techniques that ensure your mix stays clean and dynamic, even when processing heavily through limiters.

MODULE 5:

WORKING WITH FREQUENCIES IN MIND

In addition to considering the instrument sounds, balance and feel, it's important to focus on frequency areas when mastering. The low end can be particularly challenging for dance music, but Streaky will teach you how to manipulate it for tightness while maintaining depth and feel.

Mids are also crucial, yet often overlooked in this genre, they are where you can add hidden weight which is essential on smaller speakers. Adding top-end EQ to your hats etc can sometimes just thin out the mix.

You'll learn how you can achieve a posh and open sound without taking a razor blade to your eardrums... Unless, of course, that's what you're after!

MODULE 6:

IN SESSION - MASTERING ALONG WITH STREAKY

In this lesson section, you will join Streaky in the studio as he masters two dance tracks from start to finish. By seeing all the things you learned in the previous lessons come together, you will understand how powerful yet simple Streaky's mastering method is.

You will have the same tracks, presets, and templates to practice the same skills on, but you will soon see how easy it is to add any track into the method and get a mastered track in no time at all.
